On vacation - De vacances

**

I must slow down post publications since I have a family awaiting all my dedication and love for the few next weeks and I believe I have to fulfill all their expectations. I will try to poke around but this blog enters a holiday period until September.

Dorothea Lange and The Great Depression - Dorothea Lange i la Gran Depressió

Aquestes imatges van ser preses a Califòrnia el 1936 i s'hi veu a Florència Owens Thompson i als seus tres fills.

Born in Hoboken, New Jersey, Dorothea Lange (1895-1965) was an influential American documentary photographer and photojournalist

With the onset of the Great Depression, Lange turned her camera lens from the studio to the street. Her studies of unemployed and homeless people captured the attention of local photographers and led to her employment with the federal Resettlement Administration (RA), later called the Farm Security Administration (FSA).

In December 1935, she married economist Paul Schuster Taylor, Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley and together they documented rural poverty and the exploitation of sharecroppers and migrant laborers.

From 1935 to 1939, Dorothea Lange's work for the RA and FSA brought the plight of the poor and forgotten — particularly sharecroppers, displaced farm families, and migrant workers — to public attention. Distributed free to newspapers across the country, her poignant images became icons of the era.

Lange's best-known picture is titled "Migrant Mother." The woman in the photo is Florence Owens Thompson. In 1960, Lange spoke about her experience taking the photograph:

I saw and approached the hungry and desperate mother, as if drawn by a magnet. I do not remember how I explained my presence or my camera to her, but I do remember she asked me no questions. I made five exposures, working closer and closer from the same direction. I did not ask her name or her history. She told me her age, that she was thirty-two. She said that they had been living on frozen vegetables from the surrounding fields, and birds that the children killed. She had just sold the tires from her car to buy food. There she sat in that lean-to tent with her children huddled around her, and seemed to know that my pictures might help her, and so she helped me. There was a sort of equality about it.

A couple of days ago we had a family meal and I thought it might be a good idea to make a small present for my daughter Teresa as far as she will spend a few days off with her grandparents. The idea came to me looking at the book "30 Minute crochet " by Carol Meldrum: a crocheted headband with a flower.

The steps are very simple; a crochet flower sewn to a crocheted chain long enough for the size of the head.

You can choose either the flower tutorial HERE or follow this diagram

When the going gets tough the tough get going - Guerrilla Art

**

My mother always told me to look on the bright side of adverse circumstances.
And life has also taught me all obstacles eventually lead to better things or great lessons.

**

I concluded to quell a tough time giving joy to others, and accidentally (or not?), I came across a fantastic idea; write positive messages on papers and distribute them to unknown people.

I am very, very shy, so I was thinking of how to deliver them not personally given the fact that my look was not the best that could be...

Here is the method; I placed papers on cars windscreens ;-o)

I aquí la recompensa

DIY Teepee - Tipi DIY

**
Looking for activities to do with my daughter on vacation, I thought I could make a home teepee; it should be easy to assemble and easy to dismantle in the evening. I'm still thinking about it; once the decision is taken I cannot get back; my daughters would have a great misfortune :-(

Daddy and I have to think whether we are willing to have another "piece of furniture" in the dining room...

Meanwhile I did a research of possibilities...

There are tents like these

Aquí teniu les instruccions
**
Here you can find directions

**
I see it unsafe; as if poles may fall on someone at any moment...

**
This maybe a little better; it has some more anchor poles but the fine clothes and rubber around them still seems little restraint...

Tutorial AQUÍ

**
Find Tutorial HERE

**
This has 5 thin poles but the canvas is stronger and poles are secured with a bow...

Aquí les instruccions

**
Here directions

**
Aesthetically beautiful but I think that it will fall at the first change; poles are only bind to a fine wool crochet blanket with yarn...

**

I prefer these tutorials below to solve an issue that concerns me; trying to avoid the poles falling down. In this tutorials, fabric is sewn to make a hole to place poles on them, so that they are attached to fabric.

**
This tutorial below is a little bit simpler and not so good quality because poles are attached to the canvas with a hot glue gun... but you save on sewing.

**
A super simple idea; tie a rope between two trees and hang clothes, blankets or quilts over.

**
I do not reject the idea of decorating a tent I already have. Like this:

Finalment us porto una idea que m’ha semblat espectacular per qui té un bon tros de jardí; us confesso que em feu enveja ;-o)

**
Finally here is an idea that seemed to me sooo spectacular for those who have a huge garden; I confess I envy you ;-o)

I aquesta és per nota!

**
And this is A on the test!

Bé, espero que us hagi donat algunes idees i opinions útils i si us heu decidit per algun model i ho poseu a la pràctica no dubteu en fer-m’ho saber ;-o)

**
Well, I hope I have given you some useful ideas and opinions and if you have decided on one of the ideas and put it into practice, please let me know ;-o)
